Imagine my surprise when I stumbled across this site : http://twolaneblacktop.yuku.com/
It’s got a small wealth of information on the movie Two-Lane Blacktop. This ’70s movie featured Warren Oats, James Taylor, and Dennis Wilson (beach boys). The basic premise of the movie is that two drifters in a race ready ‘55 take on the factory muscle of Warren Oats in his new 1970 Orbit Orange GTO Judge across the country for pink slips.
Anyhow, for several years I had heard that the ‘55 had been recycled and then destroyed in the movie American Graffiti. (The black ‘55 rolled over at the end by ‘Cowboy’)
This site clears up some things I’d heard and I thank the new owner for restoring the ‘55 to it’s full movie glory.
While on the site I also stumbled across a link to some Roanoke VA drag racing photos from the early 60’s.
http://www.vaautoracing.org/Gallery2.html I LOVE these photos, I just wish I was more like my friend and knew what all the models of the cars were, combos of engines, and what the heck some of the modifications are. This was the age of drag racing innovation… The few I can identify are Volvo’s, Triumphs, Fords, deuces, and even a couple of vettes!
